Hey there!
This will be my first blog post and there will be more to come as I am planning to post weekly updates on my progress. Hopefully this will keep you guys updated and also a way to force myself to do work. :D
I have officially started working on an action role-playing game called, "Aeternum: Destiny's Call", together with a team of four. Progress has been pretty good if I would say so myself. One of our members have been producing concepts out at a rapid pace and I am sculpting models based on those concepts. Over the past week, I have been modeling the game's first enemy, a meadow jelly/slime! It's a cute and relatively simple enemy but unfortunately, it has been causing been quite a few problems. Which I will go into more details below. For now, let me show you the concept for the slime!
Now as you can see, it is a slime! So it got to have translucency. Or at least that's what I thought of when having a slime character. I was wanted to try out new programs, such as zrbush, when creating the slime. Which proved to be quite a challenge as I had to familiarize myself with the UI and basically learn the program while creating the slime.
In the end, I managed to create a version of the slime which I felt was nice. However, here comes the problem. I had a problem with my workflow and it ended up with me being unable to export the model into maya, which is the program that I mainly use for rigging and animating. I spent hours trying to find a solution to my problem but sadly, I had to move on as I was spending too much time on it with no progress. With zBrush out, I admitted defeat and recreated the slime in maya and textured it in photoshop. Which was what I was more familiar with. The workflow was much faster and easier this time round and very soon, I have another slime ready! The rigging and animation was smooth sailing. For the slime, I animated the idle, walk, attack and death animation which you can see below. In conclusion, the week went by quite fast and I had learnt a lot throughout it. This time, it seems that I was defeated by zBrush. However, I will not stop here! I shall come back and conquer zBrush soon. Till then, stay tune!
